Wednesday 13th October

Every month we have a training afternoon, the next one is on Wednesday the 13th October.

At 12:30pm our phone lines will transfer across to the 111 service who will be able to deal with any on the day queries you have.

On these training days we will be closing the online requesting form at 8:30am instead of the usual 9am.

If you do not get an appointment and feel it is an urgent need for Wednesday then please call 111 on that day.

After 9am

After 9am it is extremely likely from the submissions between 8am and 9am that we are at 100% capacity. Please come back to this webpage tomorrow morning at 8am to request an appointment.

Our reception team will triage your request and pass it to the on-call team. They will be working through all of the day's requests however we cannot guarantee requests made after 9am will get actioned on the day. The best way to access our service is visiting this page at 8am Monday - Friday.

 

Home visits

Home visits can be arranged for those patients too ill to attend the surgery. Please use the service thoughtfully and contact us as early as possible in the morning.

Evening and Weekend appointments

We have access to appointments on Saturdays and Sundays delivered by advanced nurse practitioners.

Saturday appointments are delivered at Castle Street medical centre in Bolsover. These must be prebooked by a member of our team. Typically these are available to us for requests submitted on Fridays.

Sunday appointments are currently delivered at Ashgate Manor in Chesterfield. We are working to relocate these to Bolsover so hopefully they are more useful to you. However if you are happy to travel to Chesterfield and a Sunday appointment would be convenient for you, please let us know.

Current appointment situation and capacity

For GP services, we are currently experiencing sustained extreme demand. We have hired additional doctors as well as begun using other services to help deliver skilled services to patients. However on average, our on-call Doctor system is still at 150% capacity. As such, we cannot return to completely face-to-face practice. We simply will not be able to address the sheer number of patients contacting us if we do this. Phone appointments are more time efficient and for the moment this is often how we will approach a problem that a patient may raise. If we cannot adequately address this problem over the phone then we will organise a face-to-face appointment. On average, approximately 60% of our consultations are currently taking place face-to-face. Prior to the pandemic, the national average proportion of face-to-face appointments was approximately 70%.

We are aware that our phone lines are busy and in some cases there can be a wait to speak with a member of the reception team. We can also absolutely appreciate the frustration if at the point you contact us we are at maximum capacity and we cannot offer you an appointment. To help address the phone issue our new system of working is to use an online appointment request system. If you request an appointment with us using the online system between 8am and 9am, we will deal with your problem within the next 3 workings days, most likely on the day. If you cannot use the online form, then please do call us between 8am and 9am however the receptionist will be using the same system - they will complete the same online form on your behalf and ask the same questions it does.

After 9am we cannot guarentee we have the capacity to deal with your problem, please contact us on another working day. If you feel your problem is urgent but does not need emergency services, please call us. We will take your information and endeavour to contact you however unfortuntely at this time we are beyond 100% capacity and we cannot guarantee an appointment.

We try and deal with as many people as we can but once we reach 100% capacity, for patient safety we must deal with the most pressing issues first and work downwards. At 6:30pm, the phone lines close and we will not call you on that day. Please contact 111 at this time if you feel your problem is urgent and cannot wait until our web appointment form opens again at 8am the next day.

You can visit us in person to request an appointment however the same system described above applies. We do also need to observe social distancing in our reception and waiting area.
